Finalist / Al Miyah Challenge for Agriculture

Advancing water innovation.
Selected for the final stage.

CRETA Group is one of six finalist teams in Al Miyah Challenge for Agriculture, launched by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative.

Our entry explores subsurface thermal exchange and controlled airflow to reduce the water demand of greenhouse cooling in arid environments, with field testing in Al Ain, UAE.

01 / Who we are

Connecting natural resources
with human needs.

CRETA Group is a UAE-based consultancy and innovation company working at the intersection of geothermal energy, water, environmental assessment and sustainable development.

Our work starts with understanding the conditions that shape a project: the ground beneath it, the resources around it and the demands it must meet. We combine that understanding with engineering analysis, applied development and collaboration to help clients make informed decisions.

Our name reflects our direction: Circular, Renewable Energy, Technology, and Advancement.

Turn resource understanding
into practical project value.

Develop technically sound, environmentally responsible solutions that respond to real operating needs. Connect science, design and economic assessment so each next step has a clear purpose and basis.

02 / Connected expertise

Specialist knowledge.
A wider systems perspective.

Energy performance, water use and environmental effects are connected. Our areas of work bring these relationships into the way projects are assessed and developed.

01

Geothermal &
thermal systems

Exploration, reservoir evaluation and plant design, alongside heating and cooling applications for buildings, agriculture and data centres. We also assess opportunities to repurpose existing oil and gas wells.

02

Water &
circular innovation

Water-treatment and reuse concepts, resource recovery and integrated approaches that consider water quality, energy demand, residuals and the practical conditions of deployment.

03

Environmental &
social advisory

Baseline studies, impact assessment and management planning that connect environmental evidence, stakeholder considerations and the responsibilities of project development.

03 / How we work

Strong ideas need
a credible path
into practice.

We bring technical curiosity to the problem and discipline to the next decision. The work is shaped around what a client needs to establish, design, test or improve.

Start with the conditions

Clarify the application, site characteristics, resource availability and operating constraints before selecting a technical approach.

What this means: a defined problem, a transparent baseline and a study scope that fits the project.

Connect the disciplines

Examine the interactions between subsurface behaviour, equipment, energy demand, water use and environmental effects.

What this means: evaluating the whole system, including the trade-offs between its parts.

Make the evidence visible

Distinguish measured data from modelling assumptions and performance targets. Identify uncertainties and the information required to reduce them.

What this means: recommendations that can be reviewed, challenged and refined.

Develop through collaboration

Bring project owners, technical specialists and research partners into a defined development process with clear roles and objectives.

What this means: connecting knowledge with field conditions and the practical needs of implementation.

Dr. Moutaz Alriahy
04 / Leadership & expertise

Dr. Moutaz Alriahy

Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Alriahy brings a geoscience perspective to energy and environmental innovation. His work connects subsurface resource understanding with geothermal applications, water challenges and the development of more resilient infrastructure.

At CRETA, he leads a direction centred on applied innovation: asking how technical knowledge can translate into useful solutions under real project conditions.

A multidisciplinary network

CRETA’s published expert network brings together perspectives across geoscience, water treatment, agriculture, sustainability and international project development.
